CBD Extraction

CBD extraction occurs through a multi-stage process – cannabis plant matter is mixed with a solvent such as CO2 or a hydrocarbon like butane. This solvent absorbs and strips out desired cannabinoids (CBD), while leaving undesired material behind. At this point the solvent can be further refined using distillation, in order to isolate out each specific cannabinoid. Because CBD has a specific molecular weight and boiling point, distillation can be used to only extract CBD.
